We are looking to create a script that will allow members registered to our SMF forum (we'd also be open to using Vbulletin, but SMF is our first choice) to post text links for sale on the index page of the site. The concept is for the site to be mega plain, mega functional, and maybe even almost ugly. This site will act more like an organized classified ad than anything else. We do not want to get involved with the transactions of selling links. We simply want a very organized way that a webmaster can find links to purchase and sell his own links very easily. Everyone is on their own from there. We just want this thing to be simple. [url removed, login to view] On the index page, we plan to have a header, then a list of the 10 highest PR sites selling links. So, for example, if we have 10 PR 8 sites offering links in the database, we'd like those to display first. Then maybe in a table below, we could display the 10 cheapest links currently in the database. The big idea is for a person to find highly relevant links to purchase for their site. So in this way, the site is going to be more like a directory. We will need lots of control over categories, sub categories, and more sub categories. The idea is to provide the public with a place to buy mega relevant links. The only requirement to post an ad to sell a link is they must be a member of the site. By “member of the site”, I'd prefer them to be a member of our SMF forum. That would be easiest for us. If there is a better way, we'd be open to ideas as we are not totally sure how to go about this end. We want regular visitors (non members) to be able to browse through our database, but if they want to buy a link they must sign up to be a member to the site/forum. As you can see on our example table, we'd like for shoppers to have the option of asking a question or buying the link. If the person asks a question, they should be directed to a login / register page and after they login we'd like them redirected to a typical forum PM page. If the shopper clicks on “buy” we'd also like them to be sent to a login / register page and then redirected to a private message page, but we'd like text automatically posted in the box (although the shopper can edit it if they choose). This text should say, “Hello, I'd like to buy the following link: (LINK DYNAMICALLY INSERTED). How would you like to be paid the (PRICE DYNAMICALLY INSERTED)? Thanks, (NAME OF SHOPPER DYNAMICALLY INSERTED) We are not 100% sure how to handle the removal of links. One way that seams fairly logical would be for the link to be removed from the database when a shopper clicks on “buy” and actually sends the Private Message. Then after 24 hours, the system could send the seller an email that says: “Our records show that (SHOPPER USERNAME DYNAMICALLY INSERTED) purchased the following link: (LINK DYNAMICALLY INSERTED) yesterday. The ad for this link has been removed automatically, but if you would like to relist it, please click here: (RELIST BUTTON/ TEXT DYNAMICALLY INSERTED).” DIRECTORY For the directory, we'd like to start with the following categories, but we'd like to have the ability to change them or add to them if necessary. Arts Business Computers Culture Education Entertainment Health News REcreation Reference Regional Science We do not want anyone to be able to post their link directly under one of these categories. We would like to bust up each category into sub-categories (and maybe even sub-sub-categories) to provide the most relevant links possible. We do require the option for a person to put their links into two different subcategories as some sites would be better served with multiple listings. If a person clicks on Finance, they should see some results right there on the Finance page, but just under the header the subcategories should be displayed. So If a person wants, a mega targeted link, they can easily click on deeper subcategories. However, a person who is content with Finance, doesn't have to mess with going through 20 folders. All the results for Finance are under the subdirectory links. All columns need to be sortable.. We would like to be able to sort every applicable category from lowest to highest or alphabetical order, whichever applies. One very important feature we are looking for is when the person clicks on Page Rank, it sorts the links by Page Rank, obviously, but sorts the price additionally. This way a person looking for a link with a Page Rank of PR 6 can look at the prices of the various PR 6 links. We would like to hyperlink the domain name. So if a person is selling [url removed, login to view], a person can click on their name and the site opens in a new window. FORMATTING While the looks of this site really aren't that important. We would like to be able to apply CSS to the table. We'll handle all that.
