110905 Build to Order Shopping Cart

I would like to create a shopping cart that will simplify the shopping experience for buying components to create a foot rail. Components are tubing, brackets, fittings, end caps etc. All parts may come in different sizes and finishes. I would like to focus on the offerings found at [url removed, login to view] and [url removed, login to view] Notice the variety of options available for each product listed. I want to administratively create similar product offerings and a variety of options for each product. Most purchases for these types of products have many parts. For example, a user may want 2 flush end caps, 4 sections of 5' tubing, 3 sections of 2 foot tubing, 3 flush elbows, a wall flange, etc. Each part can be purchased in various sizes and finishes.

Current shopping carts require users to jump back and forth many times among many screens to complete a purchase. I would like a shopping system that would constantly display what is in the shopping cart in one section of the screen and all available items with options on a second portion of the screen. In essence, I want to simplify the buying processand move customers through the selection process without have to navigate to many different screens. Most of the time a type of finish will be the same for all parts in an order. The same will be true for size. For example, someone may order 2 five-foot tubes, 3 combo brackets, 2 flush flat end caps and 1 tubing splice. The entire order may be in a polished brass with tubing and fittings that are classified as 2"Ooutside diameter. Rarely does someone order mixed sizes/finishes in a single order but the option to do so must be available for any given part.

I would like the process to be intuitive and also guide the user through the sale. When an order is complete a paypal shopping cart should be created as if the users had entered the items individually. The result of the program I would like written should result i such a shopping cart OR be interfaced seamlessly with PayPal Pro.
