The CFR website ([url removed, login to view]) is moving towards a more subscription-based website rather than free info. We are rebuilding the entire site with PHP and CSS (it is currently in ASP using mostly tables).
We need each of these tasks accomplished, preferably all by the same person. However, if you can accomplish only certain ones, please specify which ones you are qualified for and you will still be considered.
-Rebuild the layout using CSS (not tables). It will be almost exactly the layout we have now (seen at [url removed, login to view]) with a few exceptions. You will be given a graphic of what it should look like. Every page should load the header and footer from separate files (EG, we should be able to modify one /includes/[url removed, login to view] file and have it affect the header of EVERY page across the ENTIRE site.)
-Implement a shopping cart system. What system is irrelevant, as long as it fits into our own layout, and integrates with the User Accounts (which I will explain in a moment). The cart shouldn't have any ads, it should be completely integrated with our website. We will be selling mostly DVDs, but also some digital products. We can accept payment through Paypal and through Paypal's non-member credit card service.
-User accounts system - This can be custom coded or implemented from an existing script and modified. To us, it does not matter, as long as there are no ads for the system on our website. People will pay us monthly for subscription to the site. This can go through the shopping cart system or whatever works. Users who are logged in will not see advertisements anywhere on the website. Logged in users will also be able to see and use the "catalog". The Catalog will just look like a "Sorry, you need to subscribe for this" page (we will design that part), while people who are logged in will see all of the features in all their glory.
-Create (or modify) a mass email-sending system. We currently have one with about 1800 users (stored in an MS Access database). The existing users will need to be converted (presumably to MySQL, though this does not matter a whole lot to us) so that all of our existing users stay on the list. In addition, we want to be able to set some "introductory emails". Essentially, when a person signs up, they are immediately hit up with the first email. A week later, they are automatically sent a second email, a week later a third, and a week after that a fourth email. These four messages will be automatically sent whenever someone subscribes. We will also be sending our own newsletter on a bi-weekly basis, which should go to the entire list.
While the mass email-sending system is free, it should also integrate with our user accounts -- when someone subscribes, they are automatically put into the newsletter. We should also be able to tell from the back-end whether they are a subscriber, and the history of what (if anything) they have ever purchased from us.
Please note also, the back-end of the mass email system we currently have in place allows us to separate users into groups, and when they subscribe they also may choose which groups to be a part of. While we have not used this feature thus far, we would like to retain it in the new system.
All of this should be done in such a way that it can be modified easily, and new pages added to all sections of the site without extensive PHP knowledge. Ideally, the pages show up well in Dreamweaver CS3.
We do not want you to do the copying and pasting of the entire site. What we really need is the backend programming -- the new layout in CSS, the user system, the shopping cart, and the email system. We should be able to take it from there, as it should be built in such a way that we can continue to add new content and change old content.
For the winner of the project, we will give graphics of what the new site should look like, we will give them password and FTP info to see the back-end of our current system so that it can essentially be replicated, with the new changes of course. You will be able to see the back-end we currently have on our email-database, so you make sure not to skip any features we currently have in place.
Please note: This is a large project. It is very important to us that it is done right. If changes need to be made because work turned in does not meet all requirements, please understand. We will pay fairly, but your work must be of very professional quality. If you have any question about whether you are right for this, please explain what feature(s) you might have trouble doing, and what problems you might run into.
Thanks for your bids. We do not know what this project will go for. We don't want a less-than-professional budget programmer, we want a very good one. A good price is a good thing, but the work is more important. Bid honestly.
