Looking for a client/server web application
Video Side
Server will be similar to a YouTube in the sense that users can upload videos to a "channel" after logging in. Videos WILL NOT viewable by anonymous users. Multiple users can upload to the same "channel". There will also be a "news" feed that users can add messages to. It should be an RSS feed that the Client will grab based on their permissions. When adding News there will be a Header line and then the body.
Each user has permissions controlled by a master admin account. The admin will create users and also will define what permissions each user has (View Videos, Upload Videos, Delete Videos, View News, Add News, Delete News). Admin should also be able to mark accounts inactive in order to retain user data and permissions but no longer allow logins from them.
Server should accept most standard video file types and then compress them so they can be streamed and buffered when someone requests to view a video. News should be in an RSS feed.
Video and News should be able to be sorted by header/title and also sorted by date added. Both should have searchable body/description fields.
Should be a setting on the server where number of concurrent streams can be limited on a per "channel" basis. Also if a user account can only watch be logged on at one PC at a time. This is to prevent someone from sharing their user account with multiple people. Would also like a way to have a stats page that tells me how many users logged in on a given day, what videos they watched, what IP they logged on from and if possible how much bandwidth they used.
Client Side
Will be an application like XBMC or Boxee that will run on Windows XP, Vista and 7. Look and feel should be as close to Boxee as possible. When client app is opened there should be a login screen that asks for server URL, username and password and then have a checkbox to save that information so they only have to login once unless at some point they choose to logout. Client will authenticate with the server and depending on what "channels" they have access to those will be shown. Client will only be used to View videos and news, no deleting or uploading from the client.
On left hand side of client software there should be a link to adjust "Picture Settings", link to adjust "Network Settings" and a link to "Logout". Main portion of screen should have two tabs, "Videos" and "News". Depending on what the clients permissions are will determine what "channels" are displayed on the "Videos" tab and what "news" is shown on the "News" tab. Each tab should have a search box to search the videos and news that they are allowed to view. And anytime there is a text entry field selected in the client there needs to be an option of entering text using an on screen keyboard, this way text can be entered via remote control if viewed on a Media Center PC without a keyboard.
When Client app is run, it should go full screen at an optimal resolution for displaying videos with the least amount of pixelation. 640x480?
Again I love the look of Boxee and would like it to be as close as possible in looks as that for the Client. Boxee is almost all open source so achieving the look shouldn't be too hard.
Let me know if you have any questions as I'm sure I have left out some details or possibly not thought of everything.
