We have an Educational software package created in 1993 that runs on DOS (but can be run in Windows up to Windows Vista). It also runs well in DOSBox. We have education institutions who pay top dollar to use this software but need to redo it to run on something better than DOS.
We are getting other freelancers to convert the 135 lesson modules and various practice games, etc. We already have some complete "lesson" and "quiz" modules you can use to verify the "lesson container" you are about to make works properly. Your job is to create a “lesson container” web site similar to the one shown in “[url removed, login to view]” (but with a more professional/polished design). The home page of the web site would be similar to “[url removed, login to view]”. An icon selection made on the homepage would select the “lesson container” contents. Icons would be enabled or disabled according to the subscriber's enabled subcriptions.
The web site must be accessible by subscription only. A system to add/edit subscribers must be created that will only be accessible to us (the site admin). Subscription login access must be automatic if the subscriber's IP matches a configurable IP mask. Students’ quiz grades must be recorded, and the software subscribers (i.e. Teachers) will need to be able to see a reports of the grades of their students. Grades must be filterable and exportable to CSV. Tables used must have columns that are sortable. See the attached “flow” diagrams for more information – these diagrams must be fully implemented. The technologies used for the database and server-side programming required for this is up to you; however php is recommended.
Once the web site has granted access to a subscriber (ie. A teacher/school) via IP authorization or username/password if IP authorization fails, the student does not need to log in (username/password) until a quiz is selected. Once the student has logged in the student should remain logged in until they log out.
Note that a previous freelancer attempted to do this project but gave up after about 60% completion. We can give you all of this php, .as and .fla files which may be useful. However we are expecting a much better job as his software was replete with problems and missing functionality and a redo may be easier.
All graphics must vectorized and scalable. A Browser window resize must be able to resize the window of the lesson being run. Images provided are for concept only. A clean, more professional and less "playschool" UI incorporating all elements necessary and keeping in theme with the colors and subject is desired.
We are also interested if you can provide a solution that would allow us to sell this software as an offline Windows-installable package that could verify its subscription to a license server. Let us know if you would be able to do that.
We can provide you with the old DOS-based software upon request. Our overall desire is to modernize it and make it work on any modern PC.
The project you deliver to us must include all source code and any media required for us extend and/or change the project using commercial Adobe software. Included with the completed project must be a written guarantee that “EKI” will hold copyright to all of this work and that you will not sell, give, or provide any of this content to another party.
