We are an international catholic community with various websites around the world, which we want to connect with one-another via a widget to be placed on each of those websites.
The widget should be as simple as possible so that it can be easily included in various types of websites.
Because all those websites are independent of another, we have chosen a bottom-up approach with a central server on which the various webmasters register themselves and their websites and where they can get into contact with each other.
After their registration is approved, they are sent an HTML/CSS code snippet for inclusion in their website containing the widget (mainly a menu showing the websites distributed over 8 categories).
This XML file should be automatically updated/created anew from the database each time some change is made to the registered websites.
Thus, effectively 3 things need to be made:
1) the database (with back-end management, email notification of new registrations and confirmation of approval, and the XML file creation; a regular check of the functioning of the links would also be usefull)
2) the webform for registration and updating of the webmasters (username, password, real name, various contact data like email/skype/... and backup contact person) and websites (name, URL, category, language/country information). After login, the webmasters are to have access to a forum and each others contact data to be able to exchange information.
3) the widget with data extraction from the XML file on the server as described above.
Because the Navigator will be used by people from various countries it needs to have a simple structure
with as few text as possible to provide a good overview and not require much translation.
For that cause we already developed a logo to graphically represent the Navigator (widget) as a whole and also its 8 categories separately (jpg image is attached; .ai and .psd files are available).
