The aim of the project is to design a web based system (portal) for a translation service company . The translation service provides translation services (interpreting, translation, British Sign Language, telephone interpreting etc) and other office services (proofreading, authoring, desktop publishing etc)to both profit and non profit organisations as well as training for interpreters/translators. The Translation service depends on agents who work on a freelance basis to provide this service. The system should support the following: agents registration (preliminary) and login once fully registered agents to be able to update their availability, personal details, etc. agents to be able to see assignments allocated to them as well as past assignments. Agents to be able to update status of assignments (e.g. assigned, started, near completion, completed, finished and signed off). client(organisations) registration and login client search for available service e.g. translation from one language to another, and the search returning results only for those languages for which there is a personnel to be assigned the booking. For example, if all our Russian interpreters are already booked on an assignment, the system should be able to say that we do provide this service but the next available agent will be on the 15th of August (This is to avoid giving the impression that we do not provide the service at all, just because all our agents are busy and the search returned no results). The Translation service also passes assignments to other translation agencies (whenever it is unable to handle this itself). Client booking of a service. Client should also be able to update personal/organisation details, view job status The admin staff who work at the translation agency should be able to complete agents registration (after such subtleties as police checks etc), email the confirmation and login details to the agent. Complete registration of clients and send e-mail confirmation. Update agent details, clent details, assign jobs to agents etc The system should also be able to generate several reports for the service e.g no of translations, proofreading in a certain period. Another interesting aspect of the system would be if it could implement a rating system whereby agents are able to rate the company they have handled an assignment for (this will be particularly useful for interpreting), and the clients can equally rate the work of the agent. An e-bay style rating system where agents collect points based on the length of service and number of positive feedbacks. A point deduction system whereby points are deducted for lateness or last minute cancellations in order to discourage agents from cancelling assignments they had previously accepted. An excellent aspect of the system would be if it could could be automated to the point whereby clients could search for and book an interpreter straight away (without the intervention of the ILS admin staff), and the ILS staff only intervening where the system could not find an interpreter and the job needs to be passed to a third party.
