We need a Firefox-Extension and a PHP/MySQL-based forum-solution programmed.
The goal of this project is to provide users with the possibility to leave comments (and later chat) on any web site. Similar to ShopTalk, [url removed, login to view], [url removed, login to view] or [url removed, login to view], but more comment (blog style) oriented than chat-oriented.
The user has to install a Firefox extension (later support for Internet Explorer and Opera will be added). The extension should add two buttons to the main toolbar (next to where the URL is displayed). The first one is a simple on/off button. When this button is turned to on, the second one displays the amount of comments available for the current URL. A click on it opens a popup window, which stays permanently on top of other windows, until it is closed or minimized. Inside that window, comments for the current URL are displayed, most recent ones first. On the very top there is a text area that allows you to leave your own comments. When the user moves to a differnt URL, the window gets refreshed and now shows the comments for that URL. The button showing the amount of comments available also gets gefreshed.
Comments are stored on our server. There needs to be a php/mysql-based solution that can save comments and their relation to a certain URL. The owner of the web site the comments are about will not even know whether there are comments for his site, unless he installs the Firefox extension himself.
The project is to be delevoped in several stages:
This is more of a proof-of-concept stage, where the basic functionality should work, but none of the „extras“ is included, yet: The Firefox extension is to be programmed, a PHP/mysql server-solution is created, comments are simple plain-text, new ones are added on top.
Stages 2 and up
There is lots of functionality to be added in the future, reaching from user management to tagging and integration with other Browsers like IE, Opera and Safari.
Right now, we are only looking for bids for the realization of Stage 1. If we are happy with the result, the contract for implementation of the additional features will be given to the same provider.
