My php social networking site (not using php fox) has a browse form that allows members to browse for other members and enter zip code. The original php code that produced output was very buggy and not properly coded to begin with. Currently it doesn't narrow down the search results at all even if you select a zip code and distance.
I currently have a U.S. zipcode database, and my members have their zip code in the members table.
I need a programmer to fix the zip code search so that it works properly. In fact I am looking for someone to fix it so that it actually performs the search smarter.
I think that if a user enters a numeric zipcode and distance, then first we need to perform a calculation to see which zip codes are within the specified distance (in miles) from the specified zip code. Once we have a list of zip codes within the range of the zip code entered, we can now search for members matching the search criteria who have the zip code matching the list of zip codes from step 1.
Please bid if you understand what I am asking for. As always I am open to discuss the project, but I do believe if a zip code is entered there is no reason to query all members, and then reduce the list by zip code. Why not just return the users within the range? :)
