71546 PHP/MySQL Search Engine

Introduction: I'm creating a web-based search area for a relatively low population U.S. County of about 70,000 residents. This geographic location is strong in tourism, however, so has a fair amount of commerce going on. I need expert level consulting regarding the best PHP/MySQL Search Engine Software program to use. Your job will be to tell me which software is best, and why. In detail. Requirements: -- Webmasters will click an "Add URL" link and submit their site. An admin for our site will confirm it is a genuine, relevant site for our target geographic area. If it is, the search software needs to be able crawl and index the entire site. It must spider only within the domain submitted and not venture out into the greater web. -- It would be nice to limit the depth of indexing within a give site being spidered. -- The software must be fast, memory-efficient, and disk-efficient. Search results need to be returned quickly! -- The software needs to be well written and easy to modify, if necessary. -- It will be a plus if the software has a strong user base and has proven the test of time. However, newer products will be considered if created by a top-notch team. -- Some PHP/MySQL search software becomes slow and unusable after indexing the small number of 10-20K web pages. The software I use needs to be much more robust by utilizing well the capabilities of MySQL, which can certainly handle much larger amounts of data. -- The software needs to be well supported, either directly by the company who offers it, or third party vendors. For example, I will require expert-level installation, configuration, and possibly, on-going maintenance. -- The software should be able to fix a database that has somehow become corrupted. -- In addition to returning search results from spidered sites, the software needs to be able to place [login to view URL] real-time query results, when available, first in the listings. This is how we will monetize this search engine. -- The search engine will NOT be a PPC venture, so none of that code should be included. -- An integrated affiliate program will NOT be needed. -- The software will run on a Red Hat Linux server that currently runs at low load. We have root access to this dedicated server. -- It would be very useful to have reporting information regarding searches, database statistics, etc. -- The software should be either free, open source code, or relatively affordable. This is a bootstrap project with a very small budget. -- It would be useful to be able to tweak the ranking algorithms via variables. For example, the relative weighting of title, meta name description, meta name keyword, etc. -- Full text must be indexed, not just tags. -- It would be useful if all system admin were accomplished through a web-based UI. However, if the best software only uses a command interface, and understandable (by me) documentation is provided, I will consider the option. -- Since this is a U.S. based search engine, internationalization is not required. The software should be able to read a given site's character set and index only English content. -- It would be useful to parse for file types beyond HTML, like .txt, .doc, .pdf, etc. -- The software should include user-configurable stop words support. -- Search results pages should utilize user-configurable HTML templates to ease integration into my site's design. -- Web-based admin access should be username/password secured. -- I've specified PHP as the programming language. However, if a program is built with C, I will consider it. I'd have to be thoroughly convinced that a Perl program would be fast and memory-efficient to meet my criteria, but I'm open to the possibility. Conclusion: Your bid price is for reviewing available products, relative to my criteria, and making a recommendation. It does not include installation, configuration, maintenance, customization, or any other consulting regarding the software. However, it would be great if you also have the capability to do those tasks. Please include detailed information regarding your past experience in this area that you feel qualifies you to make this expert-level recommendation. If you want to recommend more than one product, please do so, ranked by priority. No doubt, I have not included all selection criteria above. Your bid should include providing additional factors that are important to my choice, and which I have not included in this project request.
