I'm currently utilizing ImageMagick to create thumbnails of originals that my users upload. Current images are cropped and thumbs are created.
PROBLEM: Images are cropped at the center. So when the image ratio is 2Widthx1Height, it works FINE most of the time because most of the image is captured in the cropped thumb, BUT when the image ratio is 1Widthx2Height, the cropped thumb significantly excludes from the original image in most cases.
EXAMPLES: 1) An image that is 400W x 600H is uploaded. In the photo, the users head is at the very top, chest area in the middle and remainder of the body below. The imagemagic cropped thumb will be of the chest area because it's in the middle. However, if the users face was in the middle, the cropped version will be acceptable
PROJECT: I want a developer to modify my imagemagic script to examine the photo ratio and crop differently or not crop at all depending on the aspect ratio. I'm open to suggestions on how to do this.
