As part of a research study, we are interested in collecting a large volume of hotel price data. The more data we can collect the better, but the basic result we are looking for would be something like this:
- Collect the price charged on Expedia/Travelocity/Priceline/etc for a one night stay at Hotel X on Dates A,B,C,...., as well as the price for those stays on Hotel X's own website (in addition to the Expedia/Travelocity/Priceline sites).
The larger the number of price comparison sites included (the Expedias, Travelocities, etc.), the better. The larger the number of Hotels covered the better. The more dates covered going into the future the better. It is a must, however, that we have the price from the actual hotel's own site (e.g. [url removed, login to view]).
If a program could be written so that each day we could run it and collect prices for Hotel X for one night stays on every night for the next 90 nights, that would be fantastic. That means that if we started collecting January 1st, we would end up with prices across the web for a night's stay at Hotel X on April 1 quoted on January 1, January 2, ...., March 31.
Therefore each day we run this program for a single hotel we would end up with C*D prices where C is the number of price comparison websites scraped from, and D is the number of dates searched.
Some of these sites have RSS feeds but as far as we can tell, they just provide information about what is the lowest price you could get at hotel X for a given month, which is not even close to the level of data that we need.
We have some programming ability on our end, so that we would be able to run some sort of script every day or something of that nature, but nothing that requires any serious coding.
