Last year, I hired a programmer to create a political activist site that would have free membership and enable members to fax their representatives in the state legislature for free. The programmer has mostly finished the project but due to other commitments is unable to support me fixing bugs and other issues as I prepare to beta-test.
The site is PHP/MySQL driven, featuring an off-the-shelf membership script. It uses the API from [url removed, login to view] to enable Internet faxing. The programmer was very competent but I know this wasn't his specialty and he had to learn a lot of things to finish the project.
I am looking for someone to do the following:
1. Review the entire site architecture, working with my former programmer by email and phone if necessary, to learn how the site works to be able to support and debug it.
2. Make any suggestions for improving the site that would enable a better user experience, including security issues, user interface or any other relevant area.
3. Support the site by being "on-call" for any bugs during the beta-testing period. There are several known bugs at this point. Possibly the greatest need right now is the ability to take raw geographic data of state legislative districts and use it to lookup user districts based on user-inputted addresses.
4. To continue to support the site on an as-needed basis after launch.
We will likely need to communicate over the phone, though I will try to use email and screen capture videos with audio as much as possible. For this reason, I strongly prefer a US-based programmer for this task. I will want to interview the final candidates over phone.
Payment will be hourly, so quote your hourly rate. I will provide a timeclock login to my online timeclock for you and will pay monthly by the 5th of the month for hours worked the previous month. You will be a contractor, so take taxes into account for your bid.
This should be fairly easy and straightforward for someone who knows what they're doing. I am prepared to pay $20-$40 an hour- the lower the bid, all other things being equal, the more likely you will be to score the work. Please post any relevant experience of qualifications you have for this type of work. I can share more, including URL's, on a PMB.
Note: this site is of a hard-right-wing conservative nature, focusing on cultural issues and immigration. Please do not bid if you have an ethical problem supporting right wing activism. The site is similar in functionality to [url removed, login to view], where site users register and can send free faxes to their members of Congress.
