Looking for the implementation of a database/back-end for an on-line (web) page for creating price quotes for printing jobs. The web page, WHICH IS NOT PART OF THIS QUOTE, will be provided and will consist of an HTML form with various drop-down menus and text fields in which the user can make selections and provide information. Based on user response, the web page will calculate a cost estimate for the user's project.
The client has created a database in Excel and wants to be able to use this as the basis for frequent updates to the information in the database. Therefore, I am looking for programming which will:
1. Allow the user to upload the Excel database to the server, and then have the Excel database translated to MySQL so that the data is refelected/represented in the web application appropriately. For example, the client/administrator might add several "size" options to a printing capability field in the database, via Excel, and I need to have these new size options show up on the website drop-down menu after the client has uploaded the modified Excel database with these new options.
2. Any formulas in the Excel spreadsheet must be translated to the database/website and work appropriately, via PHP. For example, when a user of the site selects various print size/color/quantity options, the total cost for the project must be derived/displayed based on these selections. All pertinant formulas will be provided via the Excel spreadsheet, but they must be made to work within the context of the website back-end.
3. If possible, would like the user to be able to save the final quote as a PDF file. At the very least, be able to print out the final quote. It is not necessary to maintain user selection data between sessions - if user exits website and comes back, they will have to start over with quote.
4. Solution must be cross-platform: ie. no "Windows Only" implemenation of Excel upload.
