This project consists of two seperate and distinct sub projects. The first portion is a "Secure Favorites" folder. The concept is very simple, a folder is added to the user's internet explorer "favorites" menu, this folder is called something like "Private" or "Secure"... if the folder is selected a password prompt is requested. If no password is set, then a dialog to set a password is given. The url files in the folder and the folder itself need to be encrypted somehow such that an ordinary user would not be able to access the folder via windows explorer or via the internet explorer toolbar without a proper password. The second portion of the project is a DLL or executable that loads at system startup and given a specified interval (perhaps one hour) connects to a specified server via http and retrieves a set of instructions (text file, xml, whatever you like).. downloads the instructions.. compares the date of the current instructions to the date of the last set of instructions it downloaded, and if the instructions are "new", it executes them. This executable or dll must not be placed in the "start menu" and preferrable will be hidden such that a process/application listing from the task manager does not reveal it is running. The instructions that it will download will be one or multiples of the following: 1) set home page to specified homepage 2) add desktop icon with shortcut to specified url 3) download application from specified url 4) add specified favorites 5) display speciifed html advertisement at specified size The two projects will be bundled together in an installation package that we will create.
