1990 Wildcard Subdomain Help

This should be a quick and easy project for the right person. I have done this before myself, but for some reason, my notes on how to do this seem old. I have a WPMU site that I am trying to setup with Wildcard subdomains on a Linux/WHM/Cpanel server. Here are the steps that have worked for me before when I once did this on my own: ---------------------------------------------------------- How to create wildcard subdomains using WHM and [url removed, login to view] 1. Under DNS Functions - Go to ?Edit DNS Zone? in WHM. Choose the domain you want wildcard domains on. Add ?*.yourdomain.com. 14400 A your.IP.#? under ?Add New Entries Below this Line?. Make sure to add a period at the end of the domain. Click on ?Save?. Then go to ?Restart Services? in WHM and restart ?DNS Server (BIND)?. 2. Using PUTTY ? login to server using ?root? name and password. Type in either: Nano /usr/local/apache/conf/[url removed, login to view] Or Pico /usr/local/apache/conf/[url removed, login to view] And then scroll down to the your conf file to a Virual host domain you want to edit. For example: -VirtualHost 111.111.111.111- ServerAlias [url removed, login to view] [url removed, login to view] DocumentRoot /home/somedomainnameuser/public_html 3. Change ServerAlias from .[url removed, login to view] To *.[url removed, login to view] 4. Click on -Control-X- to save changes. Press Y and close the session. 5. Go back to WHM -Restart Services- and restart ?HTTP Server (Apache)? 6. You're done :) ----------------------------------------------------------- Here are the new problems that I am running across: 1. After completing Step 1 above, Apache seems to go down and there is not much that I can do to get it working again. I have had to keep restoring my config file - this is the only thing that seems to get Apache working again and I cannot seem to be able to save my changes. 2. On Step 2, I can't seem to find the VirtualHost entry in order to change ServerAlias from .[url removed, login to view] to *.[url removed, login to view] . The config file seems to be set up differently than from the time when I created these notes. ----------------------------------------------------------- I would be extremely thankful it if someone could help me figure out how to do this and to help me to correct my notes above. LOL!!!!! Thanks in advance! Hope to work with you soon!
