This project is to create a easy-to-use gallery, with user-generated ratings. This project will combine a mixture of artificial intelligence, flash, XML data storage, ajax, and PHP. The gallery will display current ratings for each item, but the user can click their own ratings. The gallery is already designed, it is attractive and easy to use.
The ratings will be calculated with an AI or fuzzy logic algorithm that is resistant to spam, using various algorithms to detect and ignore abuse of the rating system. Techniques include looking at time stamps, IP ranges, frequencies, time intervals, standard deviations, or other more complex techniques.
Data on items will be stored via PHP in XML, and votes will be stored in text log files. Users can be signed-in, signed-out, or admin user. The system will store votes separately for each type of user. Votes will be aggregated from text files, and processed by PHP, Perl or python script. Processing will occur via a cronjob, or directly from the admin UI (backend).
The backend will be PHP. The backend will allow administrators to browse, add, remove, and edit items and ratings. By default, a rating score will be calculated based on votes, but the administrator can manually override the score. All data is stored in XML or text files. The UI is relative simple, with a table of items, and a control panel for modifying checked items.
We already have a user authentication system.
The front end is already designed (see attachment). Features for UI include:
* Each item has thumbnail and description fields
* Users can vote on ratings by clicking a star
* If a user is logged in, we remember their ratings, and display them in the future.
* Ratings are an aggregate of votes, using a algorithm (see above)
* Filtering by tags
* Sorting by fields, and choice of ordering
* Choosing how many items to view at a time
* Click thumbnail to show enlarged image
* Pagination includes mouseover effects to choose a page
* Previous and next buttons also navigate
* Jump to a page.
The design is complete. The header and footer will be SWF. We will provide widgets as class files. The main body will be HTML, updated via ajax. If you do not have skill with Flash, we can provide the two flash panels.
You should have experience with dealing with ratings engines, and preventing spamming or abuse. -- or you should have good ideas about this.
