Document database for categorizing and locating documents stored on local drive. The database will not do anything to the stored file itself, it will simply serve as a system for organizing, searching for and launching files stored on a local hard drive.
Effectively the setup needs to be completely customisable depending on the need of the user. The program should be able to be launched from the drive and multiple versions will be able to be located on the local drive with different names [login to view URL], [login to view URL] and so on.
Upon opening the program there will be a menu with buttons, each button a folder (icon to be supplied).
If you click on a folder there will be sub-folders.
If you click on a sub-folder there will be sub-sub folders.
Each folder, sub-folder and sub-sub folder can be created and renamed, there should be no limit to how many.
The lowest level of folder will display the documents within that folder, one below the other. (Some folders may have many sub-folders and sub-sub folders and others may have none only documents)
The documents will display REFERENCE – TITLE and double clicking on a document will launch the physical file from the drive (Word for .docx, Adobe for .pdf and so on). On the right side will be VIEW|EDIT|DELETE.
Documents will be created with the fields listed below and can be created, edited and deleted. This will have no effect on the physical file, simply the listing in the database.
MAIN TOOLBAR OPTIONS:
NEW DOCUMENT:
NEW FOLDER: (new parent folder or within another folder)
EDIT FOLDER: (name and parent)
DELETE FOLDER:
EXPORT: (to excel a listing of all documents with all fields populated: folder|sub-folder|name|reference|location etc)
EXIT:
Search function by tags
NEW DOCUMENT fields
Reference (manually inputted by user)
Title
Date (date picker)
Folder (database folder which will contain the document)
Link to physical file (eg C:\[login to view URL])
Save
The design should be clean and as nice as possible for such a boring program, I will supply a logo.
