Oscommerce custom website, fix special price showing on product info page

I have a fairly customized setup of oscommerce.
My product info page is setup to display the price based on attribute selected.
However the issue that was not tested at the time of development was specials prices.
So on the category page the price displays correctly with a strikethrough,
However on the [url removed, login to view] page the price only shows the base price without the discount.

Initially the correct price loads but then it switches (very quickly) to the regular price.
You can see the discount price when the item is added to the shopping cart.
I believe there is 2 issues:
1. the specials price is set by only setting 1 price, so if possible it would be good to set it based on a percentage so that I do not need to change all of the attribute prices to match the discount.
2. the actual discount price must be set to show as expected on the product info page.
