[login to view URL] uses custom post types, custom taxonomies and was built using the genesis framework and a custom template.
We'd like to bring the site into Toolset, using a flexible theme that is easy to update and make changes etc. I have played with toolset quite a bit over the years and can set up CPT’s, fields, adapt views etc so I feel we will be able to manage changes ourselves, but building it from scratch is not an efficient use of our time.
The existing site has a horrible menu (the drop down orange buttons – activity, destination and category). This was a temporary solution and the code is a mess and the menu is not very user friendly. I would like this to be redone and from my understanding toolset offers the functionality to do this (although possibly not within our page structure so perhaps FacetWP would be better). The menu allows visitors to navigate by 3 taxonomies (activity, destination and category) – it works a little like a filter except that it loads a new page each time, eg going from [login to view URL] to [login to view URL] . This navigation and url structure is important to us (for SEO and advertising areasons), we just want it to work much better.
We wish to add some new custom post types. Currently we have discounts as a CPT: [login to view URL] these are member protected using memberpress (we don’t intend to keep this members only). These are a good example of the CPT’s we would like to set up and will share many of the same fields, the new CPTs will be ‘holidays/vacations’ ‘courses/lessons’ ‘experiences/day trips’ ‘accommodation’. These will be directory listings that advertisers can add to promote their services for example a listing for a snowboarding holiday in Chamonix, France.
We will need an advertiser login and system for adding listings and editing existing stuff which I understand toolset does using Forms. As admin we need to have control of what is published, so be able to view things added by various advertisers. It would also be good if advertisers can buy advertising online.
For the front end currently it uses a pinterest style tile system but this won’t work with all the new post types. Instead we would like something more traditional, like ebay or amazon in some ways – but less complicated. We want to make it easy for site visitors to navigate to what they are looking for so on every page I would like them to be able to navigate by activity and/or destination. Eg if they are on [login to view URL] they should so a list of countries within europe where you can snowboard and be able to navigate to and then destinations likewise if they are on [login to view URL] they should be a list of activities available in Chamonix and be able to click to them. These pages already exist and in the new site will all be general so they will have a bit of the content from all our CPTs, but with the option to go to a dedicated page for just that CPT eg to go to the page for that activity and/or destination for articles, holidays, lessons, accommodation, discounts.
How the url structure will work from here is a good question! Currently ‘discounts’ are a CPT and a category to you can view them by going to this could work, as we could set up categories for each CPT with articles having sub categories for the rest of the existing categories. Although I am not sure if this is the most robust way of doing it. As we currently rewrite the taxonomy ‘activities’ to display as ‘holidays’, it will conflict with the new CPT so we need to change the display name of this taxonomy back to ‘activities’ and set up 301 redirects.
A final thing we will need is to be able to set up automated text that detects the CPT, activity, destination etc to display titles eg something like ‘France snowboarding discounts’. We would also like to be able to do similar for more in depth auto generated text.
