Wordpress Development: Create taxonomy and terms to expand URL structure

Hello Freelancers! Let me preface this project by explaining that I have already hired a freelancer to accomplish this, however it's not working properly. After doing a lot of research on my needs, I don't think it was completed using the best method. Let me explain what I need... I created a custom post type, we'll call it Fruits. I wanted this to have an archive page, so that's what I created on [login to view URL] I wanted to take it a step further and on /fruits/ I wanted to display the categories for this custom post type. So, if I created the categories Apples, Oranges and Bananas - When I go to [login to view URL] - it would display Apples, Oranges and Bananas. Now, if I click on one of the categories, let's say apples for example, it would take me to another archive page showing the posts inside of that category. SO, the final URL structure would be: [login to view URL] Still with me? Now, everything is working perfectly, except... (there's always an except) If I accidentally misspell the category name, it still loads a page showing the header and footer and displays the incorrect URL. So, I could type in [login to view URL] and the page will load. I created a post in the default post editor and used the permalink structure /category/post-name. I tried typing in the wrong category and it automatically redirected to the right one, so the incorrect URL wouldn't show. I would like to do the exact same thing for my custom post type. If I type in the wrong category, it will automatically redirect me to the correct one. Here's the kicker, on my URL structure: [login to view URL] If I misspell /fruits/ the page will redirect properly. It's only when I misspell /apples/ that I have an issue. So, here's my main question... Is custom post types the best way to execute my needs? It's displaying a post type archive page which shows categories. The category page is not editable in wp-admin and shows every post attached to that category. Would a better way be using categories for /fruits/ and /apples/ as a custom term? I am hoping an expert in Wordpress can help me execute this properly. In summary... - I want [login to view URL] to show a page full of fruits that I can easy add and remove. - I want [login to view URL] to show all of the posts I have created under apples. - The final link structure should be [login to view URL] - Every page should display something if isolated, meaning [login to view URL]; [login to view URL]; [login to view URL]; - I don't want plugins to be used, everything should be hardcoded inside of the child theme. - Currently I am able to use muffin builder in order to edit the pages like /how-to-eat-apples/, I would prefer to be able to use the same builder for the /fruits/ and /fruits/apples/ pages. If this is not possible, no problem - as long as I can still use it for the /how-to-eat-apples/ page. It doesn't matter how this is achieved. As long as the final URL structure is solid and working properly. This is imperative that it's easily crawled and accessible from an SEO and usability standpoint. Remember, the custom post types are already created. If we decide to keep them, then the bulk to of the work is complete - we only have the URL issue to resolve. If we move to a taxonomy/term structure, this will require more work. Please keep this in mind when bidding. One more thing, my link structure isn't actually /apples/fruits/how-to-eat-apples, I am only using this as an example. It's a separate link structure that we will discuss in private.
