It is usual when editing a text of this nature to amend any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors, and also ensure that the text flows and makes sense. However I am an English major and not a medical professional, so I am unable to add anything of medical value. Where I feel the text is unclear and I lack the medical knowledge, I will simply highlight it and ask you to double check/amend where appropriate - I do not guess at changes/corrections where I am not 100% certain an error exists. I note that depsite being from Portugal, you have requested US English - this I note with your spelling of "edema" the American way, as opposed to "oedema" which is the UK way.
