Theory Paper #1: Describe an Organization
Purpose: To apply theory to the way you assess an organization to support an objective and critical approach.
Overview: Write a description of an organization of which you have been a member. Examples could include a sports team, church group, places of employment, fraternity, or sorority.
--Name the organization.
--Define the organization by one of the definitions (i.e. Communicative, Social) from Lesson 1.
--Apply one of the management theories (i.e. Classical, Human Relations) from Lesson 2 to illustrate the organization (help us visualize it given using the theory as the paintbrush).
--End the organization description highlighting your perspective on organizational communication (Post-positivist, Interpretive, Critical)
In addition to naming and defining the organization, select 2 of the following topics to describe the organization:
purpose, vision, mission, values
types of policies and rules
types of leadership and management
a description of how you perceive the organizational culture to be
types of interpersonal relationships existing within the organization
recruiting and interview types and processes
types of interaction internal and external to the organization
All papers should have a clear introduction of 3-5 sentences that introduces the topic and previews the paper. Following the introduction, you should write at least one paragraph per main point, or question asked in the assignment instructions. The last paragraph needs to be a conclusion that summarizes the main points of the paper and ends with impact.
--use APA style for paper (no need for title page, DO include a References page)
--paragraphs are generally 5-7 sentences
--one-inch margins, double-space
