SYNOPSIS Disgraced policeman takes on the system to ensure the shame never causes another first responder to take his own life. INTRODUCTION Under the Revised Code of Washington, RCW 69.50.307, a Police Officer known to abuse drugs or alcohol was to be terminated immediately. In addition, the stigma of guilt and shame accompanying termination fell on the entire family, not just the officer. Even worse, the law was based on misunderstanding the nature of addiction. 2008 For every police officer who was killed in the line of duty two took their own lives. That number of suicides had been inching higher for years. 2009 The following year something radical happened. That something was an ex-Kirkland City Police Officer who made a noise so loud it got the attention of the Lt. Governor of the State of Washington and brought about a Senate Bill (SB 5131) that changed the old law and literally saved First Responder lives. The First Responder suicide rate began to decline. 2021 A conservative estimate of the lives saved since 2009 is nine thousand. I ENTERED SEVERAL Film Script Contests. Last one said Honor Bound would have been selected if it did not have so many spelling and grammar mistakes. Unfortunately fees have been paid for the coming FFs that have already been entered.
