Hi Jay - another project for you, if you would like!
The overall brief for this is to minimise the number of pages I need to print, while making sure the files are still easy to find when printed out.
Here are the details...
I have around 1,600 docx word files. They can all be in the same directory. Most of these files are only 1/3rd of a page long, and I want to print them all. What I would like to do is fit as many files as I can on one page. The font size can be reduced from 12pt to 10pt to save a little room, but the main thing is being able to have 2 or maybe 3 files on one page. How exactly this works out I am not too fussed about, as long as I can get the page count down from 1600 to something a bit more manageable (so multiple files per side of A4 sounds sensible). And they are printed in order.
The files are generally divided in to years - 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944 and 1945. All the file names are formatted like this:
'31 May 002 - 1945'
So it would be very useful for indexing purposes if the page could have the month and the year at the top, perhaps as a header?
So the page would be:
MAY 1945 (header)
then the text from maybe 2 to 4 files shown on the page
Can always have a chat about the details if it seems too complicated or too time consuming to do, as the simple option is just fitting as many as possible on one page and leaving it like that. Many thanks
