I need an Android-only solution that quietly installs on a phone and listens over the local network (Wi-Fi) for two simple parameters coming from my desktop or server: the destination number and the SMS text. Once received, the service should fire off the message through the device’s native SMS manager—no on-screen interface or notifications, just a background service that starts with the device and keeps running. Because it will run headless, please take care of permissions (SEND_SMS, RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED, FOREGROUND_SERVICE where required) and any battery-optimization whitelisting so messages are never blocked. I’m fine with classic Android Java; no Kotlin is needed unless you feel it speeds development. Communication can be your choice of lightweight REST endpoint, WebSocket, or simple TCP socket as long as it’s over Wi-Fi and I can invoke it with a short script from my computer. Deliverables: • APK and signed release build • Complete Java source with concise README explaining how to call the service (sample curl command or Python snippet) • Brief instructions for granting the required permissions on Android 10+ • Clear description about codes for further development or upgrades in the future. I’ll test by sending a batch of numbers and texts from my PC; success means all SMS reach the target devices without any UI popping up.

If the device enters Doze mode, your silent SMS sender could be paused before the message is sent. I'll register a foreground service with the proper START_STICKY flag and request the battery-optimization whitelist so the service stays alive. The REST listener will bind to the local Wi-Fi interface and parse the JSON payload containing the target number and text. A common pitfall is assuming SEND_SMS works without runtime consent on Android 10+. The app will prompt for the permission at first launch, store the grant status, and fall back to a log if the user denies it. Ready to start immediately and deliver the signed APK with full source and README.

I can build the Android Java SMS sender with a lightweight local Wi-Fi REST endpoint, allowing your desktop script to submit a destination number and message text. The app will validate requests, protect the endpoint with a shared token, queue batch messages, report delivery status, and send through Android’s SmsManager. I’ll provide the signed release APK, complete Java/Android Studio source, a concise README with a curl/Python example, and Android 10+ permission/setup instructions covering SEND_SMS, boot handling, foreground service requirements, and battery-optimization settings. One important Android limitation: a service that runs continuously after boot cannot be completely invisible on modern Android; a foreground service normally requires a persistent system notification, and battery-optimization exemptions must be approved by the device user rather than silently applied. I’ll keep the app headless with no activity or pop-up screens while following those platform rules and include clear code comments for future upgrades. Is a persistent, non-interactive foreground-service notification acceptable if required by the target Android version? Muhammad Saad

Hi, I reviewed the Android-only requirement: a headless Java background service that listens over Wi-Fi for destination number and SMS text, then sends via the native SMS manager. I’ll build it in Java using Android SDK, with a background service started at boot (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED, optional FOREGROUND_SERVICE) and a lightweight Wi‑Fi communication endpoint (REST over LAN). When the endpoint receives destination and text, I’ll call Android’s SMS APIs and handle SEND_SMS permissions. I’ll focus on reliable background execution, permission/battery-optimization whitelisting guidance, clean code organization, and a signed APK with README on calling it from your PC. Let’s discuss here now.

Hi there, I have read your project requirement. You need an Android-based SMS gateway that receives destination numbers and message content over a local Wi-Fi connection and sends them through the device's native SMS service, with reliable startup, permission handling, and a simple PC/server integration. We can build the Android service in Java with a lightweight authenticated REST/WebSocket layer, boot handling, SMS permissions, queue/retry logic, delivery tracking, and a clear API for desktop invocation. We will also account for modern Android background-execution restrictions and battery policies rather than relying on unsupported hidden background behavior. For managed/authorized devices, we can provide the appropriate setup and permission instructions. A few questions: =============== Will these be company-owned/managed Android devices with user authorization for automated SMS sending? Should the Wi-Fi API be restricted to the local network, or will it also need secure remote access? Do you need delivery reports and retry handling for failed SMS? Which Android versions and device manufacturers will be used for testing? Best Regards, SrashtaSoft Team

Hi, The project looks straightforward—an Android service that listens over Wi-Fi and sends SMS in the background without any user interaction. The main challenge will be handling Android’s permission model and battery optimizations so the service stays alive and messages go through reliably. I’ve built a few similar headless services where the app runs in the background and communicates over the local network. The key is setting up a lightweight TCP or REST endpoint that stays responsive, while managing permissions upfront and handling cases where the device might drop from the network. For the deep dive, I’d focus on the service lifecycle and permission handling. Android 10+ aggressively restricts background services, so I’d declare the foreground service with a low-priority notification (just to satisfy Android, not the user) and request all necessary runtime permissions. If the network drops during a send, the service would queue the message and retry when back online. The biggest unknown is how strict the client’s devices are with battery optimizations. Some manufacturers block background services unless the app is whitelisted, so I’d include clear instructions for the user to manually allow background activity. I can start working right away. Let's connect and discuss the details. Thanks, Denis.

Android 10+ background execution limits and Doze mode terminate silent TCP listeners and drop outbound SMS manager requests unless bound to an explicit foreground service channel. Completely invisible background execution is blocked at the OS level without a minimal ongoing system status notification. I configure a persistent Java foreground service hosting an embedded lightweight HTTP server, paired with programmatic ignore-battery-optimizations intent handling and multi-part SMS splitting. This ensures the Wi-Fi listener stays alive through sleep cycles and dispatches programmatic curl requests instantly. Will this device run standard AOSP Android, or specific OEM builds like Xiaomi or Samsung that enforce custom background memory termination policies?

Hello, this is a straightforward Android device-service problem, but the part that usually breaks in production is not SMS dispatch itself — it’s background survivability across boot, idle modes, and OEM battery policies on Android 10+. I’ve built several production systems where a local client listens for commands and executes them reliably without depending on an active UI. In your case, the clean design is a small always-on service with a narrow network interface, a request validator, and a separate SMS dispatch path with status handling. The closest relevant work on my side is Enterprise ProxyTool Client App, where I designed long-running client software with local control interfaces and reliability boundaries, and AI Translator Plugin, which involved low-latency local transport and persistent runtime behavior. I would typically separate listener, queueing, and send execution so batch tests do not fail because of transient service state. I’d also define explicit handling for boot start, permission state, Doze/battery exemptions, and send-result reporting. This kind of system needs to be designed for long-term device behavior, not just a demo APK. If useful, I can sketch the service lifecycle and request flow before implementation. Clifton
