I have a working electronic product already selling in the United States, yet its current board is dated and hard to manufacture. I hold the original schematics but no PCB files, so the first step will be to extract every detail from the physical board, identify each component, and rebuild the entire design in KiCad. Your primary objective is to reproduce all existing functionality while streamlining the layout for better design efficiency and smoother volume production. As you work, please keep U.S. safety, EMC, and environmental requirements in mind so the finished board is ready for certification. If firmware hooks or test pads reveal embedded code, document anything relevant that a firmware engineer would need to know; full‐scale firmware work is not expected, but component-level insight is. Deliverables • KiCad schematic and PCB layout files • A clean, well-organized BOM with sourcing references for each component • Gerbers, drill files, pick-and-place data, and any additional manufacturing outputs required by standard U.S. board houses • A brief design report outlining key improvements you introduced for manufacturability and compliance I will provide the product, high-resolution photos, and the legacy schematics as soon as we start. Let me know your estimated timeline and any clarifying questions so we can move forward quickly.

Hi I am an embedded systems engineer with over 12 years of experience. I have extensive experience reverse engineering existing PCBs, rebuilding schematics/layouts in KiCad, preparing manufacturing outputs, and improving boards for reliable volume production. For your product, I can start from the working board, high-resolution photos, and legacy schematics, then recreate the design accurately while cleaning up the layout for easier assembly, sourcing, test access, and future certification. I will also document component choices, firmware-related pins/test pads if found, and any EMC, safety, or environmental considerations that may affect U.S. production. I have worked on consumer-grade electronics from concept through production, including BOM cleanup, DFM review, Gerbers, pick-and-place, drill files, and board house handoff packages. The exact effort depends on board density, number of layers, and whether any parts are unmarked or obsolete. A few questions: how many layers is the existing PCB, roughly how large is it, and are there any high-voltage, RF, battery, or mains-powered sections? Please contact me to discuss details.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I've carefully reviewed your project, and this is exactly the type of modernization effort where a structured reverse-engineering approach pays off. Since the product is already selling successfully, my focus would be preserving all existing functionality while creating a clean, fully editable KiCad design optimized for manufacturing, sourcing, and future revisions. I have experience with PCB reverse-engineering, schematic capture, KiCad development, BOM optimization, and production-ready hardware design. I can work from the legacy schematics, board photos, and physical hardware to identify undocumented changes and ensure the recreated design accurately reflects the shipping product. Deliverables include: • Complete KiCad schematic and PCB files • Organized BOM with current sourcing references • Gerbers, drill files, pick-and-place, and manufacturing outputs • DFM and assembly improvements where appropriate • Documentation of firmware-related interfaces and test points • Design report summarizing manufacturability and compliance enhancements A few questions: Approximately how many components are on the board? Is the PCB single-sided, 2-layer, or multilayer? Are there any known obsolete components you'd like replaced? I'd be happy to review the photos and schematics and provide a detailed timeline once I assess the board complexity.

Hi, I’m Osama from Virginia. This is exactly the kind of work I enjoy doing. Rebuilding an existing PCB while preserving every function is important, and I understand that the real priority is making the board easier to manufacture and ready for U.S. certification work. I have seven years of experience building embedded systems and hardware-adjacent software products, with hands-on experience in PCB Layout, Embedded Systems, Prototyping, and Engineering documentation. I can review your current setup first and improve it without unnecessary rebuilding, then rebuild the schematic and KiCad layout from the board, organize the BOM, and prepare the manufacturing outputs you need. I’ll also document any firmware-related hooks, test points, or component-level notes that could help your firmware engineer later. Happy to share my suggestions and help you move this forward. Regards, Osama

Hi, This is Jorge from IT GLOBAL SOLUTION LLC, based in the FL, United States. I've worked on hardware projects very similar to what you're describing—especially PCB reverse engineering and redesign efforts that recover schematics from existing boards and bring them into clean, manufacturable layouts. Your project scope is clear and well-defined. I'd approach this by first capturing the existing board through high-resolution imaging and continuity tracing to rebuild an accurate netlist and schematic, identifying components, footprints, and trace routing layer by layer. From there I'd recreate the design in a tool like KiCad or Altium, validating each net against the original, then redesign the PCB layout with proper signal integrity, power planes, and DFM rules so it's production-ready. For any embedded or microcontroller sections, I'd document the firmware interfaces and pinouts to support prototyping and future iterations. I've handled comparable electronics and product design work where accurate documentation and manufacturability were critical. I focus on clean, well-documented deliverables with organized source files and version control so you can extend or manufacture the design long-term. Happy to share relevant work and discuss the best structure for your goals. Let's connect and go over the details. Best, Jorge

Hello, I am a Hardware Design Consultant specializing in power electronics, embedded systems, multilayer PCB design, and reverse engineering of existing products. I have successfully reverse-engineered several commercial products, including EV 2-wheeler and 4-wheeler electronic control systems that are currently in mass production, with cumulative market volumes exceeding 100,000 units. For this project, I can: • Reverse engineer the existing PCB from the physical board, high-resolution images, and legacy schematics. • Identify and verify all components, footprints, and critical design details. • schematic in Altium Designer • Redesign the PCB • Document important hardware observations and any firmware-related interfaces, programming headers, test points, or debug connections discovered during the reverse-engineering process. To provide an accurate quotation and timeline, I would first need clear photos of both sides of the PCB, along with close-up images of critical sections and the available. The complexity of the board, layer count, and component density significantly affect the effort required. Final deliverables : • Complete schematic capture • Production-ready PCB layout with DFM improvements • Manufacturing package • Organized BOM • Engineering notes I would be happy to review the board images before finalizing cost and schedule. Looking forward to discussing the project.

Reverse-engineering a physical board into a clean, production-ready KiCad design — with DFM improvements and U.S. compliance considerations built in — is exactly the kind of high-value redesign work I specialize in, and with 12+ years of PCB design experience and a Master's in Electronics Engineering, I have the component identification skills and layout expertise to do this properly. My process will be systematic: physical board inspection and full component identification from your photos and legacy schematics, accurate schematic reconstruction in KiCad, then a fresh PCB layout optimized for modern U.S. board house requirements with improved trace routing, component spacing, and test point placement for easier production testing. The final package will include KiCad schematic and layout files, a sourced BOM with U.S.-available part references, complete Gerber and manufacturing outputs, and a concise design report documenting every DFM and compliance improvement introduced — giving your certification engineer a clean starting point. Approximately how many components are on the existing board, and is it single or double-sided — this will let me give you an accurate timeline and fixed-price quote right away? Best regards, Engr. Muhammad Imran
