We have a number of linux hosts on a LAN that need to be constantly monitored for hard drive health (i/o errors etc.) and other problems like kernel or tinker panics.
Ideally a daemon or script to enable logging and alerting to users who will be manning a Windows based PC on the same LAN will be required.
Please post a brief outline of your proposed solution.
Note* the kernel we are using does not support smartd on SATA drives so this is not an option at this stage. We are tied into a kernel version due to the development of outsourced hardware products.
