I need a simple way to add etched, sequential part numbers to my sheet-metal DXF files before they go to the laser. Each part should receive its own number in order—001, 002, 003, and so on—and that number must sit consistently along the bottom edge of the piece. You are free to tackle this with a macro, a stand-alone script, or a plug-in for common CAD/CAM tools such as AutoCAD, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or LaserCAD, as long as the final output is still a clean DXF ready for cutting. The process should let me drop in a batch of files (or one master nest) and have the numbers generated automatically without manual editing. Key points to hit: • Output remains DXF. • Numbers are sequential only—no custom text or mixed codes. • Placement is fixed: bottom of each piece, readable after cutting. • Font height and engraving layer must be easy for me to adjust. I’ll verify the solution by running it on a sample nest of 25 parts; all numbers must appear in the correct order and position with no broken contours or extra entities. Please include brief instructions and any dependencies so I can replicate the workflow on my Windows workstation.
