We seek a toy-project (C++) giving us information about Filesystem Events.
The developer must have a profound knowledge of the Win API.
The general problem is related to detecting within the windows OS when a file has been opened (i.e. read).
E.g. when Notepad is opening a file we want to have a method to get immediately notified via the OS or via a method that an app (i.e. from a known list of Apps) has currently opened a file. For detecting that, we would like to read the OS process list and get a list of opened files that these lists of apps have currently opened.
We wou;d appreciate advice on other alternative implementations to get the desired information. We are open to change to focus of this projcte accordingly.
Deliverables are an encapsulation of Win API call for C# i.e. a library providing the following information provided via a wrapper:
Our current project is done in C# (4.0). We need C# events that return:
- filename (+path) of read acccessed file, potentially (i.e. if possible) detecting a write access
- name of process/accessing application from list of observed applications
Additionally, we would like to have a full copy of the process list with all information with a method to access the object via wrapper
The goal is to have the solution works on win7 and above.
Finally we need information on performance penalties, limitations etc.
As part of this project we want to determine also why the [login to view URL] from the .net [login to view URL] class is not working or not working reliably e.g. in Windows 10 Enterprise Version 1803. (we were setting disablelastaccess to 0 via "fsutil behavior set disablelastaccess 0" -- this should generically enable the firing of access events) but tested with Notepad, it didn't show that events. Question: what is being detected by this event and when is it being fired by the OS?
