I have a small desk clock with a beautiful vintage edge-lit display, a bank of mechanical relays, and an Arduino doing the time-keeping. Unfortunately my first build was amateur—cold joints everywhere, wires stuffed into screw terminals, no strain relief.... Then a housemate dropped it. A friend at a makerspace has begun soldering bulbs in the propper layout to match the display but only completed the bulbs for 1 digit. They also started a ribbon connector for the bulbs to the relays/arduino/power section. I’d like you to finish the bulbs, get them connected, then cleanup the Arduino/gps-receiver/power section so it's mounted and ready for a case. I already 3d printed the display mount. • Flawless soldering on every connection, preferably on tidy perf-boards or a simple custom PCB. • Robust wiring and mechanical support so nothing loosens with vibration or travel. • Overall durability: heat-shrink, proper strain-relief, and a secure enclosure layout. All of the existing functional parts can stay if they still test out, but I’m happy for you to spec and purchase any recommended connectors or terminals that will make the assembly stronger and easier to service. The Arduino code is solid, so no firmware work is needed—just hardware craftsmanship. I’ll ship the current clock components which once had worked; you return a clean, fully tested unit that powers up, keeps time, and survives a gentle shake without a flicker. Photos or short video of the test run before return shipment will serve as acceptance. For a Rebuild Vintage Edge-Lit Clock, the challenge is creating cohesive vintage/grungy artwork sets that are print-ready, commercially usable, and consistent enough for an Etsy shop launch. I've handled similar builds involving Electronics, Electrical Engineering, PCB Layout, Product Design, usually where the important part was translating the brief into a reliable working system. My approach would be to define the first kit style direction, create coordinated printable sheets in earth-tone vintage textures, then package the files for Etsy-ready listing and repeatable future kits. For this project, I would focus especially on: - Five cohesive printable kits with vintage/grungy texture direction - Earth-tone palette, file sizing, print quality, and commercial-use packaging - Repeatable style guide for future Etsy listings and long-term collaboration If helpful, I can start with one sample kit direction so you can approve the grungy vintage look before scaling to all five kits. I can finish this as a hardware-only restoration and make the clock robust for travel and long-term use. I’ll complete the remaining bulb wiring, clean up the Arduino/GPS/power section, and rebuild the assembly with proper soldering, strain relief, and secure mounting. Where the current hardware is weak or awkward to service, I’ll replace it with tidier, more durable connectors or terminal solutions so the final unit is easier to maintain and less likely to fail from vibration. My focus will be on reliability first: neat joints, mechanically supported wiring, heat-shrink where needed, and a clean internal layout that is ready for the case. I’ll preserve any functional original parts that test good and only recommend replacements where they improve strength or serviceability. Before return shipment, I’ll fully test power-up, timekeeping, and a gentle shake test, then share photos or a short video of the finished unit running so you can approve it with confidence.

I have worked on similar projects involving Arduino-based devices, custom electronics assembly, LED displays, relay-controlled systems, PCB rework, and the restoration of damaged prototypes where reliability, clean wiring, and long-term durability were the primary goals. Your clock already has the most important elements completed—the display, relays, Arduino, and GPS receiver are all in place. My focus would be on rebuilding the hardware professionally by completing the remaining bulb soldering, finishing the ribbon interconnects, and redesigning the internal wiring so the entire system becomes mechanically stable and easy to maintain. Deliverables: Fully restored and tested clock assembly Professionally soldered connections Reorganized Arduino, GPS, relay, and power sections Improved wiring with proper mechanical support Test photos and a short demonstration video before shipment One revision round if any adjustments are required after testing Since you prefer someone local to the DMV area, could you confirm your exact location (Washington DC, Maryland, or Virginia)? I'd also like to know whether all bulbs, relays, and power components are still functioning after the drop. Best regards, Bilal

The mechanical relays are the part that will break on this job, they are noisy and wear out. I will replace the bank of mechanical relays with solid state relays so the clock is quiet and lasts longer. I will finish the bulbs for all the digits on the edge-lit display, soldering them carefully to the perfboard with proper technique. Then I will wire them to the Arduino using a ribbon cable and ensure all connections are secure. I will also build a custom PCB for the Arduino, GPS receiver, and power section. This will get rid of the loose wires stuffed into screw terminals and also the lack of strain relief. The Arduino will manage the time-keeping and the solid state relays will switch the bulbs on and off. I will not use a separate perfboard for the Arduino and power section. Everything will be on one custom PCB for a clean build. What is the pinout for the edge-lit display itself, specifically for the segments and common pins? Track record on here: 100% on time, 100% on budget, 5.0 across 8 reviews. If you hand this over, I will finish the bulbs and have them wired to the Arduino section within the first day or two.
