I need a professional to check a structural load calculation on my 225mm concrete garage floor. This is to confirm it can support a non-load bearing wall that has been built on it during a garage conversion and is requested by Building Control. Verification and Review of Calculations: Examine the detailed structural calculations provided in our document, ensuring that all load values (masonry assembly, lintel, and RC base loads) are accurate. Confirm that the calculated dead loads, line loads, and imposed pressure on the RC slab (approximately 9.996 kPa) are within acceptable limits. Assessment of the RC Slab: Conduct an on-site inspection of the 225 mm thick reinforced concrete slab to verify its current condition, integrity, and reinforcement details. Evaluate the potential impact of the slab's age (approximately 50 years) and the local thickness variations (up to 250 mm in some areas) on its load-bearing capacity (pictures available). Provide an updated assessment or report confirming the slab’s ability to support the new conversion loads, including any recommendations if further investigation or remedial work is required. Review of Material Specifications: Review the material substitutions made, including the facing brick (215 kg/m²), Thermalise blocks (61 kg/m² effective), and Kingspan insulation (3.21 kg/m²), ensuring they meet the required standards. Verify that the Catnic Cougar lintel’s specification and its computed self weight (approximately 25.4 kg for a 2500 mm span) are appropriate for the design. Integration of New Window Specification: Ensure the design and installation details for the Liniar Sculpt Casement window (2380 mm × 1200 mm) are correctly integrated into the structural calculations. Confirm that the window opening and its framing do not adversely affect the overall structural performance of the wall. Final Report and Recommendations: Provide a comprehensive final report that validates all calculations and assessments. This report should confirm that the new infill wall and the 225 mm RC slab meet current building regulations and that there is a high margin of safety. Include any recommendations for additional work, testing, or documentation required by Building Control, should any uncertainties or discrepancies be identified during the on-site inspection. Liaison with Building Control: Preparing the documentation needed for submission to the local Building Control department, including any engineer’s letters or additional calculations from those supplied in this project scope. Ensure that the final report clearly outlines the safety margins and compliance with all relevant British Standards and regulatory guidelines.
