The Guatemalan Spanish is closest to the Mexican accent and shares a lot of the intonation and vocabulary. Although taught in school, they don't use the second plural person vosotros as in Spain. They use ustedes instead and the conjugation is the same as the third plural person pronoun (ellos or ellas). It gets a little complicated for the second singular person. They use three forms in Guatemala due to influences from neighboring countries. Many can use all three of them in conversations depending on the audience. Guatemalan's can use Tu, Usd. or Vos. The most difficult to distinguish when to use is Vos & Tu. Vos is used commonly with friends of the same sex and/or same sex persons who are close in age to the subject.
Tú is often used with the opposite sex and family members... but can often use the conjugation for vos. How Tu and Vos is interchanged depends on the upbringing and area. If unsure, refer to local advertisements and Guatemalan newspaper writing styles for guidance.
