I'm using a plugin to retrieve weather information from the weather server 'wunderground'.
They give a API for free but it's limited to maximum 10 requests / minute which is a limited option in some cases.
What I want to do is this:
- when I connect and get the info weather, I store the data in an xml file on my server together with time.
- when the next request comes, I compare the time of the request with the time stored in xml file;
if the hours numbers are the same, then retrieve information from the local xml file;
else, retireve from the weather server.
So for example if first request after 10:00 is at 10:03, then the 'hours' number is 10 and is stored in xml file.
For all the requests until 10:59 the data will be read data from the xml file.
In other words, doing like this I would limit the number of accesses to the weather server to at most 1 / hour.
The plugin is all done, I also wrote the code for the IF.. ELSE condition (described above).
All that is need to do is to integrate the condition code into the plugin code properly and to write/retrieve the weather information to/from the xml file.
