Chrome Extension Date Capture

I have a working Chrome extension and now need it to automatically detect every date that appears anywhere on the page—headings, paragraphs, tables, even dynamically-loaded sections—and pass those values back to my script for later processing. I’m already injecting content scripts, so the main task is writing the logic that scans the full DOM, recognises common date formats (e.g. 05/06/2024, 6 May 24, ISO 2024-05-06, etc.), and returns a clean, deduplicated list. Key points • Must run entirely client-side in the content script with minimal performance impact. • Works on any site the user visits; no assumptions about specific markup. • Output the found dates to the background script via messaging (I’ll wire up the storage). • Keep the code tidy, commented, and ESP-friendly for future localisation. The current project is small and self-contained: update the content script, add any needed helper functions or regex libraries, then hand back the modified files plus a short README explaining the new logic and how to extend the pattern list.
