First of all, I am interested in all respondents, but I am not interested in any scraper/automailer responses to this post, so please put the word 'tangerine' at the beginning of your reply so I can filter! Thanks...
Rather than continue to hire programmers, I am looking for someone to tutor me in web development. To have an idea of the type of site I would like to develop, have a look at greatfxbusinesscards.com. I have no interest in creating a site for the creation of print media like this, but I think the look, feel, and funtionality of this site is awesome. Take a look at the Designer Pro application and play with it. If I can get to a point where I can eventually create sites that have this level of functionality and clarity I would be elated. I will use my GoToMeeting or similar arrangement so we can work over the web. I currently am learning Dreamweaver. I realize most of you code directly, and I am willing to work in that direction. A quick trip through Dreamweaver in that case could still be useful, or I could find someone else to teach me Dreamweaver and have you teach me the 'real stuff'. I am learning how to create the slick graphics in Photoshop/Illustrator/Flash and you do not technically have to teach that if your strength is the backend/db aspect. If you are not so sure of your teaching ability but think you can create sites like this, then I could simply watch you while you build a site for me, and thereby learn the workflow. I believe just watching someone create is probably the best way to learn. So you can see I am very open to various options. Please let me know your thoughts...and ask any questions. Thanks!
PS - I am an easy going, funny, and agreeable guy, if that makes any difference, and you don't have to be these things yourself! Some of the best developers, I've noticed, can be a little cranky, which is ok by me.
PSS - I want to clarify that I have no interest in creating another site with the same purpose of greatfxbusinesscards.com. I say this in case anyone who worked on that site, or its owners, happen across this post and worry that I am competing. I am not, and the sites I will eventually create will be for totally different purposes. In fact, I had to search for an example site that wasn't in my area of interest to avoid any problems!
