I'm an experienced writer, and I've done my share of editing. Admittedly, this was mostly academic work. I assisted someone with his memoir, and he may be willing to write a recommendation. I can't really share edited work since it is confidential - owned by the client. If you're only worried about technical edits (rather than creative ones) you may also be able to get away with a lower project value. Of course, that depends on the quality of the original.
