Network Design

Development of a mathematical model for raw material choice and production planning for Steelmaking Industry. Worked on a team that developed an integrated tool that models the process from the raw materials purchase to the steelmaking shop plant.
The model receives as input detailed information of chemical quality, physical properties and availability of raw materials, thermodynamics, energy and process factors such as productivity, yield, maximum and minimal production of each process and impact of raw material.
Final output is a amount purchased of each raw material and production of each final product in order to minimize total costs.

Steelmaking Raw Material Optimization

6 months project for a big muiltinational automotive industry located in North America. Developed a mathematical model to minimize transportation costs while maximizing truck utilization for delivering vehicles around the country.
The focus here was outbound network. Products are finished vehicles that should be delivered by trucks. Each truck has a certain capacity (number of vehicles by type that can fit) and a cost, depending on mileage travelled. Objective of the project was to develop a MIP using a commercial solver to optimize and make the decision on what vehicles to load in each truck as well as routes taken by each one.
