TPC wanted to replace its e-commerce application called Transact, originally developed and supported by OpenMarket, with Commerce Server 2002 catalog system. Transact was no longer a supported application which was the main driver for it being replaced. The main function of the online system is to allow TPC customers to look up product information and order products from within each of TPC’s four product catalogs. TPC feels it benefits them from migrating to a Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 solution. Commerce Server provides TPC with more of an enterprise and strategic solution and achieves more of their strategic drivers including dynamic Catalogs, Direct Email Campaigns and Analytics. Commerce Server is a standard based architecture that is scalable and will integrate with TPC’s existing architecture. Commerce Server also provides several functionality enhancements over Transact and JStore (short term solution).
