http://mishaka.com/photography/metal-in-the-middle-of-the-world In the middle of the World, a place where according to pre-hispanic cultures the energy of the Pachamama converges, in a country whose population has a Catholic majority, where the Saints spy on us from everywhere, a social phenomenon was born a couple of decades ago: Heavy Metal. For common people, metal is just noise, alcohol and drugs. Nothing more. But for the people who live it, it is another form of expression, another form of art through which they can articulate their feelings and thoughts. This music genre, besides its power, is characterized by its unconventional lyrics that sometimes critic society's status quo, speak of taboo themes or are an open provocation to popular and religious beliefs. With this essay I tried to capture that: the power, the darkness, the protest, the provocation. But among all I tried to get closer to the feelings and motivations that move these people to practice metal.
