My current employment in a public affairs/public relations firm requires precise and persuasive writing skills. I know that this skill can add value to all manner of items. A large proportion of my work is drafting press release, project reports and communications materials. Importantly, despite living in the UK I am fluent in US equivalent spelling due to a period studying at Ohio University. I am a graduate in political science and history from the University of Edinburgh. I adhere, or at least attempt, to George Orwell's six rules of writing: - Never use a metaphor, simile, or other figure of speech which you are used to seeing in print. - Never use a long word where a short one will do. - If it is possible to cut a word out, always cut it out. - Never use the passive voice where you can use the active. - Never use a foreign phrase, a scientific word, or a jargon word if you can think of an everyday English equivalent. - Break any of these rules sooner than say anything outright barbarous.
