• Whilst continuing my primary role as ICT tech lead/Desktop support engineer I also held a position as an ICT Emergency Response Specialist. This role involved ensuring all satellite equipment was available, tested, procured if required & ready for deployment to disaster locations. In addition I created technical documentation and provided user training on this equipment. Working with the disasters team I gained valuable experience dealing with the processes of a disaster situation and readying equipment for immediate deployment, working under tight deadlines, advising on equipment to be purchased depending on the region and working with local support staff in those regions to ensure that the HQ had the most appropriate information for IT related requirements during these response situations. • As part of this role I spent 3 months on deployment in South Sudan where I took on the role as acting Country IT manager, provided satellite telecommunications support, IT support & maintenance. Implementing a new VSAT setup to improve connectivity and reduce costs. Moreover, implementation of a new wireless system to enable uninterrupted internet access during periodic power disruptions along with recruitment of a permanent IT country manager and working with security to ensure that all deployed staff and drivers had appropriate communications during a high risk security environment. Working with the ETC (part of the WFP) and engaging with other NGO IT staff to where possible share knowledge and equipment skills to aid in a more efficient response from NGO’s as a whole.
