This project is to design the interface for a dynamic itinerary planning website based on a rules engine. I need a mockup for one screen that has all of the features in the attachment. Specs uploaded. Questions welcomed. Looking for incredible user experience on both desktop and mobile. The challenge is the complexity of features and using design to communicate ease and desirability of functionality. Layout and design of the planning tool (daily itinerary) and how users interact with it is critical.

I'm looking for the most effective layout and attractive design. I would be happy to comment on initial layouts so you can judge if continuing to the design phase is worth your effort, or for me to make some suggestions upfront. If the initial direction looks good, I can extend the content. In best case scenarios, we have additional site work that we would be happy to give you if you're the right partner!

The website collects user preferences, schedule data, and uses a rules engine to process the data and optimize a travel plan. The mockup is for the page when the system displays the optimized plan. It includes additional features to assess, modify and compare with other saved plans (there are saved as and compare options).
1. The screen displays a Plan Score that is calculated by the rules for each iteration of the plan.
2. The screen displays a message window that “communicates” with the user, again triggered by the rules engine. These include recommendations, tips, and alerts. The user can save them or dismiss them (dismissed messages are saved on a Messages Page to view later).
3. The screen displays Tradeoffs which include the prioritized activities that do not fit into the schedule because of timing, pace or volume of activities.

The user can then modify the plan using an interactive, dynamic interface. They can add and delete locations, and other plan elements, by dragging and dropping “blocks” on the schedule.

Once these modifications are made, they click an optimize button and the system re-runs the rules and then displays the new version. They can quickly compare plans with the Plan Score and the Tradeoffs window. They will also receive alerts in the Message Window (e.g., you will need to purchase a special ticket for this, The location is not open at the time you selected, etc.). This will be built using a customized WordPress theme.

When you say responsive, does that mean that you do not want the layout to adapt its experience? (e.g some element can be displayed on a desktop in a sidebar but may be hidden behind an icon on a mobile). I ask this because the layout is very info heavy and I'm not sure if all the elements in the draft wire frame can be fitted into a smaller (lets say an iPhone) screen, mobile will probably be a completely different style. Tablets, however, have much more space to be similar to desktop. Your thoughts on this?

  Yes, agree! The design will be adjusted in the CSS for device size and elements will be removed, collapsed, etc. for better user experience. We are doing responsive (with device modification) in this first phase and will do an app at a later point. Thanks for the question!

I've just uploaded a potential wireframe structure (though looking for idea to improve upon it) and wireframe notes. I wanted to take some of the guess work out of the design. Run with it, if you think it works, or suggest something else entirely if you think it works better. The color, font, and "quasi design" elements should be completely ignored! It was just the best I could do on PP today. Looking forward to ideas!

Thanks for the question. I'm looking for a high-fidelity design slide (annotated as appropriate with design specs). I'm happy to accept whatever format you're most comfortable with -- PSD, AI, html, css, etc. (If another, might be helpful to checkin first). No code required, but none will be refused either!
