Design a range of Icons on a skinned background for a sporting app

We require a series of icons and photoshop backgrounds that we can use to skin up individual apps for sporting organisations. These need to be sport focused but generic so they will work across all sports. This means we cannot have equipment that does not go across sports to be used within the icon space. The icons will sit in a 4 across x 3 deep architecture.

Each logo must work with all the others and we are happy if you make them white to sit on a dark background but will also need to have them work on a light or pale background. Ideally we would like the logos to work together and seem seamless regardless of the order or the location within the structure. It would make sense to have the words underneath the logos but if they can work without the words then we would accept that.

The 4x3 icon space must only take up 40% of the entire background as a logo will be inserted into the top half of the overall screen. The background will need to be able to be changed in colour and layers due to the integration with existing sport organisations logos and colours.

FINAL SPECS:
Icons - 140x140pcx (PNG/JPG)
background -- 640pcx x 1146 pcx (PNG/JPG)

Layered Photoshop native files will need to be supplied with simple scalability and colour changes.
