This video, "The Conquest of Racism", will be animated for about half of its 15-minute running time, and will also need a background for the narrator (myself) for the remaining time. This narration has already been filmed, against a greenscreen.

It requires 2D, 3D (--PLEASE NOTE) animation, and illustrations. A 30-second (+-) trailer composed of the 15 minute video itself will be needed.

It is the first of what will be at least a seven-part series.

While I would like to have it finished within a month, because of the highly controversial nature of this video, it must be accurate, and I myself may slow the process down. Yes, the title has a double meaning, but rest assured, the script is decidedly antiracist. The artist will need to insert the music, which I will provide. The video must be ready to go, with an animated logo, credits, donation button, a brief sourcing/footnoting of controversial statements, and in a format(s) that can go anywhere: YouTube, institutions, organizations, or merely as a CD shown to an audience with a projector.

There are about 30 places where maps, images and animation are appropriate. The maps may merely be moved across or zoomed in/out on. They, along with the narration, are what will tie the presentation together. The maps often do not need to be in motion, although it would be nice to show motion from one map to another (the earth rolling beneath, etc). When it is simply myself presenting, there needs to be something behind me, whether it is a map, library, museum, the facade of a building, etc. Likely, it will just be a map or image from before or the map to come. There should be something involving myself with a certain map image/format that anchors the video at the beginning and end, and possibly at one or two other points. Obviously this may reate to the logo.

The maps do not have to show a great detail of boundaries and placenames. In fact, I would caution against this, or you will find yourself in the tedious position of trying to provide these for different timeframes, an enormous task. Other than a few relevant cities, battlesites, etc., geographical features are better: unchanging and able to add color, depth and visual interest.

An example of non-map images that may be stills or animations:

Flags of the Western nations atop the globe, a blonde-haired, blue-eyed man in gleaming armor in their midst, rays of light behind him.

A person in early 20th-century dress looking at the past with reassurance, at the future scratching his head.

Three kings in a tight circle holding knives/swords to each other's throats, each tensely eyeing the others.

A montage of images showing the many products, discoveries, inventions and institutions produced around the world prior to Colombus.

Cortez whispering in Pizarro's ear.

This is history, which can be dry, boring, and irrelevant. The whole puropse of presenting this as an animated video--as opposed to just a talking head in front of bookshelves or by a stone fireplace--is to make it come alive.

Two European orchestras have expressed interest in providing their renditions of Sibelius' 5th Symphony--once they have seen the video. While classical music can be grandiose for a video if not used with care, it has the significant advantage over royalty-free music in that it takes a theme and puts it through many different emotions and use of instruments--royalty free is of one mood and changes only by volume and one or two instruments, nothing more. That said, I am open to suggestions for music.

Thank-you,

Tom Van Holt
