Zen Cart filtered product dropdowns

I have a customer who operates a large Zen Cart store that sells car parts. He is interested in having drop down menus which filter down based on.

This should use either javascript or ajax so that it filters down very quickly and when all options have been selected the customer should then be able to see the tow bar that meets the chosen requirements and be able to purchase direectly from that page.

The customers web site is [url removed, login to view] and at first he would like this setup so that customers can choose tow bars easily but in the future may decide to use this system again for other products so the solution must be flexible and intergrate into Zen Cart v1.3+ without any core file changes.

All of the available products are listed within the shop but the customer feels a quicker way of finding the correct tow bar for the customers vehicle would increase sales.

A basic but functioning example would help me to make a descision about which freelancer to choose for this project. I'm keen to have something to show the customer by the end of the month.

An easy to use admin page or Zen Carts attribute system would be my preferred choice of letting the customer enter products.
