Get .htacess file to work on server

I created a wordpress website for a client, they wanted all the files on their own host. I have done this and everything works fine except for the htaccess file. All the webpages come up as
[login to view URL]
Which is very ugly. I want that [login to view URL] to disappear. I believe the server is Windows which would explain why it doesn't work.
I want a proper long term solution to this that I could use for future websites.
Also I have a slider (revolution slider plugin) that I want full screen. The full screen options at the moment are not filling up the entire page and scrollbars appear (works fine on mobile though).
