With a past in computational neuroscience and experimental psychology, I have always been fascinated by the possibility of helping solve problems and gain new insights through the merging of advancements in computational modeling and statistical techniques with the behavioral and brain sciences. My academic research specialized in leveraging machine learning and advanced modeling techniques on neuroimaging data to observe what the statistical modeling of brain activity can tell us about human decision-making, perception, goal-processing, and health. I first joined the University of Toronto’s psychology department as a data analyst before completing a masters and graduate work as a PhD student, during which my primary research line mapped a new path of information flow across brain systems during human decision-making. My other contributions over this period included demonstrating the existence of reward signals for human decision-making in a previously unproven context, delineating a key role of the lateral prefrontal cortex during human goal-processing, leveraging fMRI data to predict lapses in attention up to 7 seconds before they occurred, quantification of the complexity of activity in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and linking this signal to human perception, and teaching neuroimaging analysis techniques to graduate and undergraduate students.
