Web Cam Recorder using Red5

Overview

• Build a simple application that records survey responses via web cam. This functionality should be able to integrate into our existing research applications in the form of a JavaScript code plugin. Question text and other additional survey pieces can be performed within survey platform. Respondent is prompted to record their answer by displaying simple intuitive buttons to allow this. (example: Record, Stop, Playback, Re-record. Save and continue will save the file and trigger the survey to go to the next question. Admin module can have basic features like time limits, project number and copy and embeddable copy and paste code. 15/30/45 second limits should be imposed on video recording to limit file size and to help respondent summarize their answer.

Passing Data Variables/Storage

• Once the user submits the video and moves on to the next question, we will store it on our existing databases. Naming the video file in way that is easily retrievable after study has ended (Example: [url removed, login to view] or MPEG). Data such as ProjectID, UserID and Date would be passed from the survey platform, saved into the media file and stored for easy future retrieval. Our Confirmit development lead has indicated that we can pass the variables in a number of ways. Data can be passed through any script, or to write them in hidden input types, or in a js var, or even calling an object with them as parameters.
