venetian blinds animation

I need an animated model of venetian blinds opening, closing, rising and lowering AND changing "modes". The slats are a shape that is NOT a rectangle like a standard blind and also they have a translucent portion. The odd and even slats have a degree of freedom of motion independent from one another - that is what I mean by modes. There is a headrail, a bottom rail and four identical cord [login to view URL] blinds need to be set in a window frame on a wall with an exterior scene visible through the window when the blinds are open - can just be the sky. Some camera movement while the blinds are operating. Four different slats shapes/design to model. 30 seconds: Blinds lower, tilt closed, move through 6 "mode" states, tilt open and rise. Close to photorealistic. I have a 2D svg file representing each of the four slat types and a HTML, javascript page that shows a 2D representation of the desired "mode" movements. An example attached. I imagine this will be done in Maya but it might be better in Blender since Blender is open source so I can possibly make modifications myself later. thanks
